While this job is not technically challenging or time consuming, it might appeal to someone who's a bit more "techy," and is best done by someone who's confident they can review and approve the postings in a timely manner. Here's how it works, in a nutshell: As people send in emails to the e-tree address cas-bhs at mail.transpacific.net, the email/s get reviewed by the moderator (making sure it's appropriate as to purpose, not offensive, etc) and then the emails go out to the public once the moderator approves them (click here, click there). I'm told the process should not take more than 5-15 minutes in one sitting, and mostly depends on the volume of emails/postings to review. If you're interested, please let me know as soon as possible, and copy Phil Halpern in your email philhalpern at berkeley.net. Phil has made himself available to train whoever volunteers to handle this very important function within the CAS parent community. Thank you. Linda Gonzalez (fondos CAS). 2. Karen Ginsberg-Beroldo (matem?ticas) 3. Miriam Abrams reported on last Leadership Council meeting. LC formed 3 subcommittees to further define work on top priority issues identified in the parent/senior student/staff survey. Next LC meeting is 4pm Tues Feb 21 in Rm 335. Parents are welcome to attend. Need more structure to support PCC, either exec committee or small group to plan/arrange logistics for each meeting. Julie Gordon and Sally Sowko volunteered to coordinate PCC meetings for now. Next meeting scheduled for Thurs, March 8, 6 pm at 3035 Deakin St. (near Telegraph and Ashby). Some folks may not be signed up for CAS e-tree who should be. PCC should post announcement on BHS e-tree encouraging sign up for CAS e-tree for ongoing information on CAS activities. Need to collect phone numbers for all CAS parents in one place. This should be used for "phone blasts" and other ongoing calling work to communicate with all CAS parents about upcoming events. Jorge Melgoza, VP of CAS, spoke to the group about his personal priorities and passion. Jorge urged PCC to reach out more aggressively and creatively to families of color, so that the PCC's work reflects all of the CAS community. Parents broke into subcommittee to discuss (1) goals each group hopes to accomplish this school year; and (2) steps each group will take to achieve those goals. Each group reported back. Notes that were submitted by subcommittees are reproduced below: Outreach/Marketing/Communication Subcommittee Developed by: Sonia Carriedo, Laine Demetria, Linda Gonz?lez, Maggie Heredia-Peltz End of the year outcome: Systems to ensure that parents have the information needed to support CAS in its mission to create a learning community that nourishes and develops the whole student. Next steps: Get parents on CAS and BHS email lists Ask students to give phone number/email for parents/guardians that is current. Set up phone tree where parents call 5-10 parents to: invite them to PCC get-togethers CAS events Create handout with point people in CAS who are in leadership positions and explains their role and when to contact them. CAS: Leah, PCC, LC, Celina, Dharini BHS: Diana, Jorge, Keelan, Celina Organize quarterly off-campus celebrations March 24th Si se Puede create CAS community Hosts: Maggie, Linda and Sonia June 9th Graduates and families Need 3 hosts and location Needed from Leah: Set up phone blasts about PCC and other CAS events Have teachers: give out paper copies of point people info to students and give them extra credit or incentive for bringing back signed create parents' section on board in each classroom for teachers to remind students of events Support for Academically Struggling Students Subcommittee Goal by end of year: Develop a clear plan on how this is going to be addressed that includes parent, teacher and administrative participation. Take one action step 3 steps to understand the problem: 1. Get the data of grades by grade level, which classes/subjects, which kids 2. Survey the kids: find out what the problem is with which teachers/subjects 3. Do focus groups and/or individual phone calls with parents of struggling kids. Consider having 'buddy parent' - let them know what resources are available, etc. Find out from more successful teachers what is working and how to help other teachers incorporate these practices, as appropriate. Media Resource Development Subcommittee Goals for 2011-2012 Define discreet projects within CAS media program needed additional financial support Film/video preservation; fund a specialist/technician to preserve the archive of student work produced from 1997 to present day, starting with work in imminent danger of deterioration. Est need $10,000. Acquire 15 new video cameras (to work with 15 newly acquired computers). Est need $15,000. Fund sound studio staffing (currently only volunteers). Est need $5,000-10,000. Action steps Create promotional collateral (one-pagers) on each project to include in solicitation package for potential donors. Complete and mail solicitation letters tailored to various target audiences. Develop list of donor prospects, including local firms in the media industry and CAS graduates with media notoriety. CAS Exhibition - integrate fundraising component Raffle? Silent auction? Graduation Subcommittee Marcie Avalon and Jenny Flood will identify at least 5 freshman-junior parents to help with CAS graduation on May 28.
